We’re shining the spotlight on graduating senior Cheyanne Tatum Gregory! After years of dedication to dance, Cheyanne has found a true connection to lyrical and contemporary, styles that allow for freedom, storytelling, and personal expression.
While ballet built a strong foundation, lyrical quickly became a favorite. “It allows for more expression and storytelling in a short time,” Cheyanne shares. “It fits my character better and lets me dance more freely without worrying about every small detail.”
Throughout the years, inspiration came from both mentors and peers. Older dancers like Faith, Caroline, and Klaudia left a lasting impression, while classmates brought energy and individuality into every class. Being surrounded by passionate dancers helped shape both confidence and artistry along the way.

One piece that stands out most is “A Thousand Years.” As a first lyrical dance, it marked the beginning of a new style and also a meaningful ending. It was the last time performing with their original class from the very beginning, making it a memory tied just as much to the people as it is to the performance itself.
Like many dancers, Cheyanne has learned to navigate comparison and self-doubt. “Trust yourself,” they say. “You can look up to others, but don’t let their abilities make you feel insecure. Everyone has different strengths.”
Outside of dance, creativity continues in many forms, from painting and altering clothing to playing video games like Persona. Whether on stage or off, there is always an artistic outlet.
Looking ahead, Cheyanne will be attending St. Petersburg College to study technical theatre while earning an AA, with plans to transfer to University of Mississippi for a BFA in technical theatre. Staying connected to the stage from behind the scenes is an exciting next step.

When reflecting on time in dance, it is the people who will be missed most. The friendships, the shared routines, and the sense of community are what made the experience so meaningful.
A special thank you goes out to Cheyanne’s mom, Wendy Gregory, who has been a dedicated backstage presence for 13 years, along with friends and students who offered support through the years.
We’re going to miss you, Cheyanne! Wishing you all the best in this next chapter and beyond. 💫
